Clunk noise Empty Clunk noise

Noticed a clunk or click noise that I think is coming from the engine area directly in front of the driver on my vitara s.
I can't pinpoint where exactly it's coming from  but it seemed to be related to pressing the accelerator?
Sounds almost like a solenoid click.

Similar noise i have heard but only when really cold weather i have traced to the light sensor (round black dome) centre of the dash nearest the screen)
If you place a clean sponge between sensor/dash and screen take it for a test drive
Yet to remove and rectify as the weather is warm and knocking has stopped........iĺl post a how to next November 8-)

I'm still getting this weird click, seems to be after lifting of the clutch pedal now?
But doesn't do it every time?

I had a clunk noise on my wife’s Vitara S. They replaced a part on the prop shaft. It was clunking when pulling forward and then clunking again on reverse.

Not sure if yours is the same issue, but if so, it’s a known fault and Suzuki have a fix for it

That would make sense then. Ours has done around 25k now but the problem started at around 19k.

Took vitara into dealers today, had a drive around with head tehnician in car, who confirmed he could hear the noise.
Unfortunately as the noise couldn't be replicated while in the workshop I'm back to square one .
The only thinge noted was slight play in the front diff which he said he needs to check on another vitara s to see how it compares to mine.

Still get this clunk noise after releasing clutch, more noticeable as1st 2nd and 3rd gear engage.....
This all seemed to start after having off side front drive shaft oil seal replaced......wondering if somethings not been put back right, or just a coincidence ?

I'd say something is loose, to much of a coincidence and not a noise I've experienced
I can get you the correct torque settings if you fancy doing the job properly?

Can you get it to clunk by taking up the drive from standstill?

Yep I can get it to clunk in reverse and 1st gear just moving it back and forth on my driveway.
Never got any worse in the time I've had it.

I had a similar noise on an SX4 Diesel i bought in February, it had already had A-Arms by a main Suzuki dealer and i then replaced drop links and anti roll bar bushes but still had the clunk
With the steering on full lock it allowed me to put my hand on the suspension components as my dad took the bite up on the clutch, feeling around the Suspension it turned out the dealer fitted A arms were at fault, i proceeded to remove the A Arms and on both left and right arems the front bolts were loose so before i removed them i decided to re torque them and found there was a typo in the workshop manual and the torque was nowhere near where the bolts should be tightened to, further in the manual it had another reference to the torque that was nearly 3 times more........bolts set to correct torque and clunk went?

When I've been under the car with front wheels up on ramps I can't find anything loose but the only thing that does have movement is the propshaft which can rotate about a quarter of a turn!
If I rotate the propshaft forcefully it makes a clunk noise which is very similar to the noise im hearing from inside the car.
Is the free play normal or excessive?
Can this be adjusted via the transfer box.

Likewise I could not notice any movement in the suspension on the SX4 on a ramp or lifted on a trolley jack, it was only when the drive was taken up that I could feel it in the A arms
The transfer like any differential will have what they call backlash which is a distance set between the gears/CWP this is adjustable but via shims during assembly

I'm wondering if I've managed to track the clunk noise down to the passenger side outer cv joint???

It appears clean on the outside so can't see the boot has split to lose the grease, is it under warranty

I've not found any signs of grease leaking out anywhere? As for warranty its a 2016 plate so expired last year.... only done 27,000 miles.

I'd grab some CV grease and a clip to see if it cures it

Whats annoying is I've reported this ages ago while it was in warranty but the dealer said they could hear the noise but couldn't identify the cause 😠
