Service oil light Empty Service oil light

Post by aloofnessit on Thu May 19, 2016 10:05 pm

Hi guys
Italy here, and i'd like to post a question in your forum (we have similar one dedicated to Vitara from 1988 to 2015 models). Well...someone know how to reset the mileage of oil on the diesel model? Pushing the right pencil, is showing remaing miles, average fuel consuption, average speed and the approx mileage that remain to change the oil. If you change oil before 0, is not possible to reset it. It's only possible on petrol model via menu, but not in diesel version. Any tricks? Sorry for my english...thank you!! Very Happy

the manual doesnt give any other option so you are correct . a diagnostic tool such as a snap-on verus may also be able to do it.

Hi

It is very irritating... Don't like having to rely on (pay) dealer to reset it every few thousand miles...

Found a youtubevideo (can't post link but Google: vitara 2015 oil change reset) but it doesn't work for UK models or diesel models ...just seems to bring up the normal rhs "pencil" menu that has no oil change reset option.

Thinking about buying a scanner like Autel Maxiscan 309 -anyone tried anything like that?  Seen other forum posts that say it works for old grand vitaras and sx4...

Thanks!

Yes that's the video.  There's no reset option on the menu on my diesel.

So far I've tried a Bluetooth OBD 2 interface and a few different apps, but no luck.  I believe I need a Suzuki manufacturer-specific code, so if anyone can find that...

My previous model SX4 oil reset was performed by local non Suzuki garage using Snap On analyser, did it for nothing but gave him a fiver for his tea fund.

Hi Guys this drove me nuts too but I found a solution. I bought a scanner/reader and after updating the software (which was very easy as it`s on a micro sd card) it worked!!!! The vitara is not actually listed but under the oil change heading "Japanese market" it worked on my vitara and I live in Ireland, so we have the Uk/european model.  It`s called " Launch CReader 7001s" I bought mine at the below address but you can look for cheaper if you wish. Best of luck guys.

Many thanks for replying to this (and the other thread) - very helpful.

I found a decent local independent garage who think they will be able to switch the light off after they next update their diagnostic's software. If that doesn't work I might well try the Launch device, thanks.

In case anyone's interested, a couple of other points following on from my original post... Suzuki's Customer Services/Tech Dept confirmed there's no "hidden" menu option or any other way to reset the light without using a suitable diagnostic. They are no plans to change this with any future update. Also, this warning light being on won't result in an MOT fail.

I think the hidden menu is not available any more, at least in Diesel versions. The video is from 2015.

For my diesel, I followed the following procedure, based on instructions from different forums and it worked.

1. Enter the car and press the accelerator pedal all the way down and keep it there until the whole process ends.
2. Insert the ignition key and switch to the second position (right before it starts the engine).
3. Wait until the middle screen between the rev and speed counters display the press to start message (for the ones with the keyless entry).
4. Press in and hold the right button (next to the the tachometer) and hold it down. When the setting mode menu appears on the middle screen, continue to hold down the button (as well as the accelerator pedal) and press/ depress the brake pedal (all the way in) 4 times. The 4th time keep it pressed in and wait.
5. After a while, the orange oil sign will light up and a beep will be heard. That was it Smile
6. The oil service counter is back at 30000km

Perhaps in the 4th step you need to press the right button until you reach the setting mode menu. It took me a couple of times to make it work but in the end it did reset and so has for a number of users of the Greek Vitara forum.

Still not worked.....
But how long is a 'while' when pressing in the foot pedal?

1. Foot on accelerator all the way down and don't release the whole procedure.
2. Press the Start button two times to switch on the ignition, but don't start the engine.
3. Press the TRIP button on the left of the dash to switch the odo to B.
4. Press and hold the right button.
5. Pump the brakes 3 times.

2019 SZ5 All Grip 1.4 BoosterJet New Model. 6 months old. 2,500 miles: CHANGE OIL. I don't think so! Reset is just going into the menu until you find the Oil Change Reset and holding the button down until it says successful

Thank you - mine just came on after its done only 1500 miles. Maybe its on a timer, the car is almost a year old.
Annoyingly I saw the spanner and oil lamp whilst driving so pulled over. Checked oil, still looks like new and full. On restarting car I get the full message on the screen, so its not a fault, just a nag.

I don't think it's a timer. More likely some sort of algorithm that looks at the number of cold starts, short journeys, stop start driving etc. I had similar on a VX Insignia. Little bit of research showed the algorithm had something like a 400% tolerance. It will be interesting to see how many times this can be reset on the Suzuki before it becomes a dealer re-set....after the expensive oil change.

Seems a poor algorithm then - I estimate I have driven it about 40 times in total!
