Full size spare … tpms
This’s is probably a silly question but here goes……
Just bought a full size used alloy to have as a spare.
The alloy has a tpms sensor ….. will this confuse the system having 5 live sensors on the car ?

From what I’ve read, but may be wrong when you do a wheel rotation, after a short drive the sensors will sort themselves out

Re: Full size spare … tpms
Presumably the full sized Spare is a proper suzuki item, in which case simply fit the wheel and the sensor position will auto learn. As mentioned above, the sensors "go to sleep" after around 20 minutes inactivity. Once you start driving centrifugal force wakes the sensors up and they learn their relative positions within a few minutes.

full size spare
Hi! I acquired a full sized alloy wheel with a functioning TPMS [I think] sensor for my Vitara, so when I have a puncture, I put the spare on..
Runs perfectly and looks right, of course.
BUT, annoyingly, the car does not seem to recognise the spare/5th wheel, shows a [MOT failure type] warning triangle on the dash, and after a few days, displays a 'service TPMS system' message, which is quite disconcerting.
Of course, all cured by putting a new tyre on the 'registered' wheel; all wanings extinguish afer a few miles, and all back to normal.
So I expect your car would detect changes in wheel position and accept them, but it may not recognise a tmps spare.
You could get Suzuki to register the 5th sensor, but personally I'd rather keep my £90+!
I drive a 2019 Petrol 1.6L turboboost Suzy, and get at least 46mpg; quite a nice ride, if a little noisy [opening the sunroof cures this problem of course!]

Does the valve on the new wheel have an alloy stem on it like the 4 original wheels?
A genuine or working TPMS will self learn as long as it has the correct tyre pressure that the system and other 4 wheels are set to (eco/comfort)

Re: Full size spare … tpms
Yep the valve looks identical to the ones on my wheels. The sensor is the original one on the wheel …..no tyre on the wheel so can see the sensor

Re: Full size spare … tpms
So the wheel has no tyre so has never been fitted to the car?
The TPMS will only auto register when fitted (with a tyre) and actually rotates
The TPMS display will also only show 4 tyres fitted to each corner not the 5th in the boot

Re: Full size spare … tpms
The TPMS units are non serviceable items and personally i have yet to have a battery go flat in a TPMS
I have known someone who had an issue with a TPMS sensor after winter storage
To resolve the lazy TPMS he over inflated his tyre to 45psi , ran it for several miles and then returned to the correct psi which cured the problem so may be worth a try?

Re: Full size spare … tpms
Other than the annual November low tyre warning due to atmospheric pressure I have not had any issues with either genuine Suzuki or Chinese/Aliexpress TPMS Units
(I like to think the November light is a reminder to change screenwash, fit winter wipers and throw a snow shovel in the boot)
There must be 10 sets of wheels and tyres in the barn fitted with TPMS and I would say 20 of the 40 TPMS are Aliexpress
The oldest original TPMS are 2014 on S-cross Alloys that I have just refitted to a vehicle after 18 months Storage and have worked perfectly with no battery issues
Two items I use and cheap enough to leave in the car are a £20 ebay USB rechargeable Cordless Digital Car Tyre Inflator (although don't trust the gauge, usually 2psi out)

And one of the best/reliable/budget tyre gauges from Halfords £7

With the dash menu set to comfort I use the above to set all 4 tyres to 33psi and not anything over as some Facebook posts suggest (if you need to over inflate your tyre gauge is out)
Hope this helps and you sort your lazy TPMS out

Re: Full size spare … tpms
And if you’re going down the full side spare route, make sure the tyre you put on it is not directional ! Or you will only be able to fit it on one side of the car
