Start/stop operation
On our SCross the auto start/stop has stopped working. It does not matter particularly as my wife hated it (it's her car) and she always turned it off but I was wondering if anyone could suggest why it has stopped working and whether it will cause a problem anywhere (MOT etc).

Re: Start/stop operation
Start stop isn't currently part of the mot test.
Check that the "screen demist" position isn't selected on the heater control panel, this prevents stop start operation.

No, 'screen demist' is not switched on, it's just on 'Auto AC', 'Dual' and 'Recirc' as our normal running. I noticed it about a week ago and I think 'screen demist' would switch off automatically each time the car is switched off?

Windscreen demist (all air blowing up the screen only) will remain set until you select a different setting via the "mode" button. It doesn't turn of with ignition cycles - it disables stop start function.
Heated rear window will turn of after around 15 minutes or with ignition cycle, whichever is the sooner.
Heater blowing all air up the screen is the usual issue causing customers stop start complaints.

Re: Start/stop operation
OK thanks, not that in our case as it is just on Auto AC as it has been cooling today (to an extent as it needs a recharge). As I said, not a problem really as she normally turned it off anyway and it just saves me getting one of these Chinese adaptors to change it to 'off' at the start which I have not got around to.

Re: Start/stop operation
It might need a new battery , mine stopped working , got a test on the battery and it was down to 60% , replaced with new and it works perfect now

Interesting, I can see how that might be a possibility although there has never been any sign of lethargy in it, it always starts instantly.

Re: Start/stop operation
I would be tempted to have the battery checked/replaced
I have a 5 year old Yuasa battery off my other halfs Jimny that will start my old SJ410 (points/coil) no problems but will only crank over anything with coil packs and not a hint of starting

Check out this thread about fuse 15 in the cabin fuse box. https://vivavitara.forumotion.co.uk/t554-fusebox-schematic-incorrect
Re: Start/stop operation
Thanks, missed that. I will look into the fusing and see if one is blown (15 or 16 or whatever for the Scross Stop/start. The handbook shows it as Fuse 16.

Re: Start/stop operation
If you can turn it off via the button , so it lights orange on the dash , then the fuse is ok

Re: Start/stop operation
Good point, I could not remember so tried it in the driveway. The on/off button does work and I get the orange 'off' on the dash so presumably (assuming it is the same on the road) it is not the fuse and probably the battery.
I don't have a load tester but checked the battery with a DMM and it showed 12.5V static and 14.4V charging so does not seem too bad.

Re: Start/stop operation
The battery can show good voltage , but when it is load tested it could be failing , battery analysers are cheap enough on amazon, about £20 , and it can be tested in the car without removenig the battery

From previous link :
"Removing fuse 15 brings up the dash warning about the Auto Stop, but starting the engine with the waring active and then shutting down and replacing fuse 15 re-sets the Auto Stop"
