Mitsi Outlander has a very good reputation for reliability. You should be able to pull a reasonable deal as Mitsi are suspending new sales and dealerships in the UK by end 2022 (Mitsi UK . On going maintenance and spares should be OK as support has been contracted out.

Suzuki's AGS has been available since 2014 in Japan on various models and 2015 in the UK on the Celerio so it isn't a new concept riddled with faults, there was a recall regarding corrosion on a selector cable around 2018 but otherwise seems a reliable unit
(There are issues with Maruti AGS but Indian built cars can be assembly and localy sourced component related issues more than design)
The 1.5 engine i was never impressed with when the new Jimny was launched but combined with the AGS transmission the maths must work out for Suzuki to meet the requirements of Strong Hybrid regulations set out by the EU etc that are no doubt different regulations to Mild Hybrid and Plug In etc
In Japan you can buy an automatic allgrip ignis but this does not meet eu emissions yet a manual allgrip or an automatic 2wd does scratch
Unfortunately the term hybrid is very widely used and comparing some against others is like apples and pears and that's before you even get into the pricing variations between Mild/Strong/Full

As previously mentioned i will reserve judgement until I have driven one rather than the review in the comic Autocar who often rave on about how fantastic Land Rover products are yet are totally unreliable in the real world

hi, I was thinking of seeing if I could upgrade my MH SZT auto for a SZ5 equivalent - but prices are stupid..as no new MH SZ5 auto around, all sold apparently. So other than used at ridiculous prices. I looked at new deals of the new 1.5, just out of interest, but from anything I read, it is slower and clunkier to drive than the current booster jets. Obviously Suzuki have a reason for doing this, but I am hoping that maybe they then bring out something different too, for when I do eventually change my car. I know the Vitara is not a 'fast car', but going from 0-62 in 9.5 seconds to quite a lot more on the 1.5... not for me.. shame

Having now driven the new full hybrid Vitara I can confirm the combination of K15C and AGS gearbox is actually surprisingly good. Gear changes are pretty good, not far off that of a proper torque converter automatic, and the K15C feels pretty refined and quiet. I've only driven it on local roads, out on open roads it's obviously not going to have the get up and go of a boosterjet but it will probably won't be dissimilar to an M16A.

Gear selector cable is on the bottom of the gearbox case and looks like it may be a little vulnerable to road salt or impact if venturing off road.

Thanks for the detailed pictures Iain, there are quite a few differences when you look below the surface
I did 2000km last week in a Mild Hybrid Automatic Hybrid and other than the facelift colour display etc didn't find it significantly any more economical than my Vitara S?
Are the Full Hybrid figures anything special

The figures aren't massively different to the mild hybrid. You might see the greatest difference if you drive a lot in heavy stop start traffic where the full hybrid should drive on the electric motor alone.

I was thinking, before I had the Vitara, I had a Hyundai ix20 1.6 automatic.. was a really good gearbox.. That was slower than the Vitara, yet I didn't think to test drive the 1.5 Vitara. I was put off by the video reviews - silly really.. spent ages today cleaning the orange sand off my car..

Iain do you know if the LED fog lamps have corner illumination?

Not that I'm aware of Karl, but to be fair I didn't check for corner lighting. I'll see if I can get hold of the keys for it next week (it's a demo) and find out.

I was just wondering if they had fitted the Valeo Fogstar LED units if no corner lighting....

Be a nice plug and play upgrade as they are readily available

Semi ignore the above post , just seen a Strong Hybrid at the local dealers and they are Koito units....

Still no reason why the Valeo units would not work and a straight fit

Just checked another full hybrid Vitara and the LED fog lights are purely for fog, not cornering lights.

VITARA FULL/STRONG HYBRID 2022 - Page 2 Empty New hybrid purchased

Post by alamontana Sun Jun 12, 2022 2:46 pm

Hello guys
I am now into vitara number 3 . THe first one was a 1600 szt,the second a1400 boostejet sz5, and the latest is the 1500 strong hybrid in szt trim . It has everything I want and none of the sz5 things I found to be needless for me . My journey to work has turned into a 6 mile crawl with 2 million clutch presses. This AGS hybrid is rocking the journey with a fuel return of 55mg and some long stints on battery power.it is smooth as silk and when asked to can deliver enough power to zoom over the Pennines. It’s very early days of ownership at the minute but I am a proper micro processor when driving after 45 years as a mechanic/technician and can’t find fault. With her yet.
Will keep the analysis going for the next few years and will post any faults if they arise.

Looking forward to your reviews after owning 1.6 and 1.4 Vitara's and your AGS honest review coupled to the 1.5
(I have found a lot of online reports are a carbon copy of other reviewers opinions on other manufacturers AGS systems and negative from the start rather than giving the Suzuki version a honest try/review)
I have the Automatic1.4 S that is faultless but would like to try a 1.5 AGS on a decent run

Look forward to your updates
