Hi all

What sort of fuel economy do you get from your Vitara S 1.4s? Just wondered as the most I have got on a long run is 44.6, which isn't too bad but could be better think

Yeah I used to have a 2012 swift sport with the same engine but a little tuned. Used to get 53 in that, so sounds like your doing well! Also has the new 1.4 swift sport that used to get around 50 on a run but was about 300kg down on the Vitara!

I get 46 mpg with the 1.0 ltr Boosterjet although an Auto. Best I have seen was 49 mpg driven like a Nunn. So for the 1.4 it's pretty good 👍

Thanks all, managed to get 48 today over a 50 mile journey with no motorways and lots of limit changes, had to keep it under 2000rpm though

Not 1.4S, but 1.6 over five years average 48 winter, 52 summer. Mostly rural. Got 63 once on a 140 mile run (no motorway, no town driving). Never thought that would be possible with petrol.

I have a Vitara S Auto Allgrip 1.4t. Nearly all my trips are commuting to work 35m each way. 44mpg (brim to brim) is readily achievable but typically 40mpg is more usual. 38mpg in city driving. But for the extra 4mpg its just not worth the effort imo. Its a sporty car and just use it sensibly but enjoy it. Thats my feeling about it . I leave it in auto mode mostly though have been known to slip into sport mode. Its a comfy cruiser but always puts a grin on your face.

That's impressive Suladna!

And Ethan Edwards, I agree with you completely it's not worth chasing the extra 4mpg, they are lovely to drive. Surprising how much get up and go these engines have, after coming from the new swift sport to this I though it would feel sluggish. But it doesn't at all!

My dad has a 1.4S Manual and averages 44mpg commuting I'd say 80% 30mph town and 20% 60mph country A roads , my 1.4S Auto is averaging 47mpg but that is main 60mph A&B roads with odd 30/40mph village zone and using the cruise control, both are running 16" Yokohama AT tyres

Since February I have been using a diesel SX4 1.9 as a commuter to keep the miles off my Vitara and was getting 48mpg also on 16" Yokohama AT's which with diesel at around 10p a litre more expensive than unleaded wasn't as economical as you would think, a week back it was replaced with a petrol 1.2 Swift 4x4 that's giving 58mpg running Vredstein All Season tyres, as nice and economical as the Swift is the Vitara is still my favorite

That's interesting Karl, I thought the at tyres would have made the economy a lot worse for starters but seems to be the same as a Vitara with normal tyres! The Sx4 fuel economy isn't great, I'd never buy a diesel anyway, your likely to get more problems and I don't do enough mileage. Little Swift is returning good mpg considering its 4x4!

I have always avoided any Suzuki Diesel with them being Peugeot/Renault/Fiat units used but after owning a petrol SX4 last year for 6 months I was offered a full dealer history SX4 DDiS that coincided with my new daily commute of 95miles a day
At first all was great, the turbo engine had a proper kick compared to the 1.6 petrol and  it was 8-9mpg up on the petrol and I honestly thought I'd been wrong about Suzuki Diesel ownership.        Then it happened,  my first Suzuki not getting me home in 30+ years (typically it was down a gravel track in the middle of nowhere while camping in Wales) and to add salt to the wound I was towed home by the petrol SX4 I had swapped the Diesel for  Rolling Eyes

Within 48hrs I'd fixed the alternator that had just failed without warning and the SX4 and my diesel days were over Laughing

The Swift 4x4 again with main dealer history up to August this year was initially giving 53mpg which was great but I had a niggling feeling the dealers had not used the correct 0w20 oil the later Dualjets use, an oil and filter later and it has settled at 58mpg bounce
