Spark plugs Empty Spark plugs

Post by Shenanigans Sun Nov 10, 2019 4:14 pm

Ive fitted new spark plugs to my boosterjet vitara.
Bought the ones suggested (09482-00602-000) through suzuki.

The new spark plugs appear to be shorter than the old ones. Also, Ive noticed the engine isn't running as good as it did before. At start up (-2degrees), it was shuddering a fair bit then disappeared.

I used to be able to find plugs easy NGK/Bosch etc with my old swift but can't seem to source a new set for the vitara. Only ones I could find were standard suzuki ones

Just to clarify, the ones I had previously seem to be NGK (ILZKR7D8) 09482-00642.

Possibly a related reply here.

I picked up an Old ish Mazda MX-5 last February after selling my Mororbike ( Suzuki 1200 Bandit ).

The MX-5 had a full Mazda main dealer service history, and although it was reasonable quick & nimble it didn't blow me away.

I had it fully serviced & inspected by a local MX-5 'expert' who noticed it had a bit of a flat spot, whilst driving it from my work car park to his garage.
He found that the Spark Plugs were slightly the wrong length and temperature rating. A set of new Denso plugs of the correct spec were fitted and hey presto; flat spot gone and performance improved.
Just sayin...

It looks like you have purchased and fitted ZXU20PR11 denso plugs?
According to the denso website the 1.4 vitara s uses VXUHC22G....

There does seem to be a conflict of part numbers on the service schedule that was originally posted but I would not have fitted a spark plug that was not the correct length as the one removed
I will look into what is actually needed in the service schedule for the 1.6/1.4/1,0 and rectify the post but so far I would say

1.6 M16A 09482-00606-000
NGK: SILFR6A11 (Iridium)

DENSO: K16HPR-U11 (Nickel)

1.4 K14C 09182-00642-000

NGK: ILZKR7D8 (Iridium)

DENSO VXUHC22G (Iridium)

It seems even Suzuki GB are confused as they are listing NGK-SILFR6A11 spark plugs for a APK416D that is a Diesel?

I had new spark plugs fitted with 60 000 km service at Suzuki dealer. I asked to get the old plugs to keep.
The old are NGK IR, ILZKR7D8.
The new (according to the box) are Suzuki Genuine Parts 09482-00642, ILZKR7D8.
So both old and new ones the same as your old ones.

Cheers for the replies. I hastily removed the plugs and swapped them over for the correct old ones.
An extra £100 later and I'll hopefully be receiving the correct ones on Thursday!

Lesson learnt... Read the manual!

Brilliant, many thanks.
I wonder why there's a big difference in price between these and the NGK version?

just wondering Karl if you might be able to double check the spark plug for the m16a engine...i looked at the denso website a while ago which lists the following...

86/88 M16A            02/15-                 SK20HR11           IKH20TT               IKH20TT

the reason,,i found a set cheap on ebay brand new old stock and got them for £15.00 delivered which i thought was a bargain, and put them away in the cupboard for when the time comes to change them....so now hoping they are the right ones??

Just looked in the user manual I received with the 1.0 boosterjet and there is actually no info for that engine only 1.6 and 1.4? Wrong manual or do both boosterjet engines use same spark plugs, oil, filter etc. Just looked at Beleno 1.0 K10C (think it's the same Motor) on Denso site and it's the same plugs as the 1.4 boosterjet. It's as if the 1.0 Vitara never existed lol.

When is the replacement interval for the plugs on an M16A 1.6 engine ?, booklet shows two different intervals depending what plugs are fitted but I don't know what are fitted from new.

Generally UK cars have the Iridium plugs but personally I would change them earlier than the recommended mileage, my 1.6 S-Cross I changed recently at 45k

Not huge miles RichK so more a personal thing if you decide to replace  them especially being the original owner
I change plugs on used cars as a matter of course as you never know what cheap fuels previous owners may have used etc

On another note apparently Startins in Worcester are expecting Vitara Hybrid Automatics in their next delivery so they may be here sooner than expected

I have had too new spark plugs fitted with 60 000 km service at Suzuki dealer (Vitara 1.4 AllGrip), but they used BOSCH 0242140528 / YR6TII330T DOUBLE IRIDIUM instead of Denso or NGK.

Should I be worry?
