Heated Windscreen Empty Heated Windscreen

Post by Neu on Sun Jun 11, 2017 8:45 am

There are 2 buttons on AC panel. One is for rear window heating (defogger/defrost function, I think it also works for side mirrors) and the other one is for the windscreen.
I wonder if windscreen heating function operates "electrically" like the rear one, or it somehow supports hot air blowing from AC to the windscreen?
I haven't tested my new vitara in winter yet, but winter is tough here and almost everyday windscreen of my old car was frozen. It is really pain to get rid of it.
I hope heated windscreen works just fine Smile

It's not a heated screen but a setting for the AC to blow hot air to the screen only .

if my mind serves me right FORD hold the patent for the heated front screen they developed ,and don't lease it out very often. Mazda had it when the partnership was running a few years back. cant say i have seen them in much else in the family market anyway.

I'm pretty sure there was a 30 year patent protection on them which expired a couple of years or so ago. I believe other manufacturers now use them albeit at a cost. I am almost certain Fiat used them in the Panda 4x4 winter pack.

Not worth the extra cost unless you park your car outside. Once the windscreen has cleared the wire are just a distraction. I had a heated windscreen on my last car and didn't use it very often as I parked my car in a garage overnight. What I did notice was that when driving at night there was lots of glare off the elements running through the glass.

You could try looking for stick on heated elements. They were all the rage in the 70's. Mine was fantastic in the old mk1 Cortina. It was brilliant right up until the day it fell off. Possibly not the best option for the front but if you can't see out anyway !

We fitted several kits to the rear windows in the old days, one of my favourite customers a real dear gentleman came back after a few days saying he didn`t think the one on his Austin 1100 was working as he couldn`t see it glowing !

Happy days, stick on heated rear windows and heater optional!
