Gen3 Glasscoat Empty Gen3 Glasscoat

Post by terryk on Tue May 02, 2017 5:46 pm

So, my dealer rang today and my car will be ready for collection Thursday Very Happy . He offered to protect my car inside and outside with Gen3 Glasscoat for £295 (inc VAT) and forwarded a link to me on Youtube. Looked impressive, but couldn't find any reference to it on this esteemed Forum. I Googled it generally and it seems there are pros and cons. One of the pros being it keeps repelling rain, water, etc, for ages. One of the cons being it's applied at the dealership, by one of the mechanics, who isn't a trained car detailer, etc. Just wondered if any members had experience of it.

If keeping the car clean is of interest to you, I'd put that money in to buying products of your own choice that you can use time over.

Www.detailingworld.co.uk is a fantastic forum with all the information you'll ever need.

No problem, it's a great info source and I'm sure you'll get the bug too.

Some good sites for you.

Some of these body protective kits require intensive cleaning on a weekly basis. For me a car is for getting from A to B; not really bothered what colour it is, nor the state of cleanliness. I usually go to a hand wash facility and have the full monty three or four times a year, or when I cannot find the windscreen.

After bleached alloys and plastics from mis-dilluted chemicals plus a sponge full of grit from maybe 50 cars a day any of the local "Hand" car washes are out for me especially when "Hand" car wash involves a 6ft hard plastic brush knocking hell out of your roof

Plus with immigration officers paying a visit i have often seen cars half washed as the employees run like the wind upon their arrival

Even the courtesy car wash/hoover during a service has led to disasters

I guess only having your car washed 3- 4 times a year will reduce the risk?

+1 for avoiding hand car washes, to them you're a quick quid and it's very much a get them in and get them out mentality, the harsher chemicals used, the quicker they can turn the job over.

After my house, the Vitara is the second most expensive thing I own, why would you not want to take good care of it?

There are several hand car washes in the Carmarthen area, operated by people originating from Southern Europe and the Middle East. These guys are efficient, courteous and very good value. I have never heard of any one who has had cause to complain, and local customers include many who own cars that cost much more than our Vitaras.

+1 with Gargreen and Karl for avoiding hand car washes (and the much worse automatic machines).

I think a lot of it depends on what people see as acceptable. I see plenty of people who think they have a clean car and they would be right, it's perfectly clean. But it's also full of swirled scratches. I get uncomfortable even looking at a clean car full of swirls because my eyes are immediately drawn to it. I've also mentioned these to other people looking at the same car who just don't see them because they just see it as "clean".

My last car was black and even washing it with two bucket method, snow foam and drying aids, I ended up with swirls due to the soft black paint. I couldn't stand it and traded up to the vitara in pearl white. At least now I don't have to look at swirls ever time I walk towards the car. Chances are the paint isn't perfect because I never corrected it and it likely got a good few washes from the friendly dealers on the lot but it's so much less noticeable on the white.

Agree with that Loveness - My Vitara S is also in Pearl white and think its the best colour. The only person who washes/details my car is me and always instruct the Suzuki dealer to not clean it whenever its been in.
