Hood pin/holder Empty Hood pin/holder

Post by STDI on Sat Apr 22, 2017 11:01 am

I have ordered a Vitara S. It will be delivered end of May hopefully. So I can't go out and have a look at it. But as far as I remember the hood is held open by a pin. Right?

Look at 8:15 into this fiim. The hood is held open by dampers! But there is also a pin.

Anyone know more about this?
Is it Suzuki or aftermarket?
Are there holes and screws for mounting?
What size and "strength" are the dampers?

Looks like a modification to me, I own one and i certainly do not have the dampers.

In the video you can see him lift up the factory fit hood stay.

That's what I call a "pin".

It's a good modification.

You can buy hydraulic bonnet stays as a kit for a variety of cars, not seen one for the Vitara but its probably not too hard to modify one. The problem being, finding one that's close. I fitted a kit to my MGB GT tail gate and no longer risk decapitation when the spring version decides to shut without notice.

In the video they seem to be fitted to excisting bolts, but with specially made brackets. So I/you/we need to find the correct length when the hood is closed, the correct length when the hood is fully open and the correct "strength" (Nm). And of course where to put them and how to make the brackets.

It won't be the first thing I do when I get my car. Maybe someone else will beat me to it.

Maybe this thread should be moved some where else by Moderators. It's probably not an excisting aftermarket accessory.

For 72 Euro, I think i'll stick to the OE bonnet stay

I think it's ok price. I work in metal industry. Quick calculation with matrials and machine time and gas damper. surface treatment. then the price ends up in about the same if it is quality gas damper they use, which costs around 45 euros only for gas dampers
