Electric shock Empty Electric shock

Post by maxlev on Wed Mar 15, 2017 12:59 am

Have had the new S-Cross GripAll for 9 days now and occasionally get a small shock after driving when I grab door to shut it.
One I got today was audible, no not me, the spark jumping to my finger from the door edge.
But yeah it did give me a fright. Should be used to it by now.

Same thing happens with my Vitara. Come to think of it I think it has happened with every car I have owned though.

This is just a build up of static electricity caused by the man-made fibres used in the car seat covers and your clothes! Normally worse in dry climates. If it bothers you just fit an earthing strap to the car chassis and allow it to rub on the ground, therefore grounding the static charge to earth before you do it with your fingertips!  Or get your passenger to get out first and shut their door!! lol Laughing

Try holding the door (metal) before getting out the car, another contributor is the type of soles on your shoes and mats in the car.

This is the first car that I have noticed these shocks from. Most were so small they were barely noticeable but yesterdays zap was almost electric fence like. A few weeks ago the Swift & Grand Vitara I sold = no shocks wearing same clothes & shoes.

I vaguely remember an earth strap on an early 50`s Daimler I had 37 years ago. Might have to get one for the S-Cross.
