TPMS TYRE PRESSURE MONITOR SENSOR SPECIFICATIONS - Page 2 Empty SENSORS

Post by JOHNWALES on Fri Aug 11, 2017 8:56 am

A couple of years ago on my S Cross The TPMS started flashing just 2 miles out of Calais en route for Bavaria some 600 miles South. Running to a tight schedule and after checking that my pressures were o.k. I continued on my journey completely phased out by the constant flashibng light in my face.

I eventually located a Suzuki Garage who arranged for a replacement sensor to be sent from England ( !!! ) . I did however, have to continue driving the car for a further two days whilst waiting for the part to arrive.

Perhaps it would be a good idea if Suzuki fitted an isolation switch which you could press each time you started the engine in order to switch off this helpful, yet annoying device when there is a fault with the sensor.

Agree, it is annoying that once the system detects a fault it completely takes over the info screen.
Had the repaired tyre refitted today, the SERVICE TPMS stayed on for about 30 seconds then revered back to normal thank God, BUT when I got home I thought I would check on the display the pressure they left in the tyre, bad move ! Couldn't get it to display the individual tyre pressures for some reason so thought I would try toggling into ECO mode then back to my COMFORT mode. All it did was recognise that 33psi in all tyres was too low should be 41 so went back into the low pressure warning flashing again Suspect When it does that you cannot access the info display to put it back to comfort so had to pump up all tyres to reach the ECO minimum setting which cleared the "fault" then reset back to comfort and drop the pressures back down, What a faff Laughing

So if you run with aftermarket wheels, with say winter tyres, and no tyre pressure monitors I assume the dash will light up like a Christmas tree, with klaxons sounding and a message to stop the bloody car!
Or can the tpms be disabled?

No TPMS disable function but you will get a warning light/message on the dash
Spacesaver has no tpms valve but allows you to drive ok

Take it from me the TPMS flashing for 600 miles is a bit like a visit from North Korea. Is there a fuse that can be removed to eliminate the warning.

Is it "only" the yellow TPMS-light flashing? Or does it block the info in the instrument?

It's treated as an error condition so the small dash display shows which wheel(s) is/are underinflated with a picture. So yes you lose the info display. Not sure how long for though as when it happened to me I just drove another car until it was fixed. :-)

It's a EU regulation that all new cars need TPMS. But a national law in Sweden says that TPMS don't have to work. And since we have two sets of tyres, summer and winter, we need eight rims and TPMS sensors. At the moment that's ok since the winter wheels delievered with the car also have TPMS. But in future in don't want to change sensors on eight wheels.
I can stand the yellow light but does anybode know how to "reset" so you still can see info display?

Just a bit of info to add;

I bought a set (x5) of Genuine VDO Continental S180052024Z off E-Bay just before Christmas, they are listed as alternates to the OEM Suzuki p/n in post #1 one of this thread. .

I contacted the vendor who told me that they had no information suggestiing that the sensors needed pre-programming.

I got a local tyre fitting outfit to fit one of the five sensors to my spare 17" alloy wheel and set Px to 34 psi as car was programmed for 'Comfort' mode, the spare was then fitted to the RH Front, original in the boot.

Initial drive from tyre fitters was good, no failures evident and all 4 tyres showed 34 psi. However i now think this was an existing reading rather than a live one.  After about 10 minutes of driving i got a TPMS amber warning and nothing seemed to work to shake it.

I recall another post on the forum and tried something else. I set all 4 tyres to 45 psi and parked up for the night, a bit fed up....

First thing next morning, Ignition on, Amber fault still on ( Damn ! ). I then manged to get into settings, switched TPMS to 'ECO' mode and went for a drive. After about 5 -10 minutes of town driving the fault extinguished and has been off ever since. The TPMS menu is showing 45 psi on all 4 wheels now, so my new sensor is fully integrated and reading accurately.

Unfortunately my spare wheel is a Mid Grey Suzuki Misti style alloy and just has a part worn Conti Eco 2 tyre , the original 4 are all Gloss Black with Conti ECO 5 tyres, so the grey spare is going back in the Boot but at least I know it is now fully functional.

So i can confirm that VDO (Continental) S180052024Z are a plug'n'play replacement that didn't need specialist programming on my 2017 Vitara S.

Edited to Add:
I have Subsequently Changed all 4 wheels with the remaining 4 x VDO TPMS sensors fitted, They were installed in a spare set of 16" Alloy wheeels I had and put winter tyres on.
No Problems whatsoever, the 4 new sensors integrated and started working 'as normal' straight from the off with no TPMS cautions.

TPMS TYRE PRESSURE MONITOR SENSOR SPECIFICATIONS - Page 2 Empty It all happened.

Post by JOHNWALES on Fri Dec 29, 2017 3:07 pm

A couple of very cold days ago, my TPMS went wild, flashing low pressure warnings all over the place !! The annoying thing was if it had been in comfort mode, there would have not been a problem. But it appears you cannot adjust the mode whilst this warning is operating. Anyway I restored the pressure 41/36 p.s.i. and reset from economy to comfort and all is well. Then, probably due to the car idling for 15 minutes whilst I dealt with the tyres, the d.p.f. warning illuminated, so a quick bash down the A48 in third gear ( 20 minutes ) also put that right. So was all well - NO - Windscreen wash bottle was low so that needed topping up.

All fine now !!!

Why in third gear? What should that have to do with TPMS?

Nothing. It was to clear the DPF warning light that the rice burners put up. It was the usual case of a 5 min job turning into a many job job if you see what I mean. :-)

Vitara owners need to be aware that it is advisable to clear the D P F by driving several miles in a lower gear, third is ideal. In sixth gear 70 m.p.h. is achieved at slightly over 2,000 r.p.m. and this makes it a much longer job.

TPMS TYRE PRESSURE MONITOR SENSOR SPECIFICATIONS - Page 2 Empty TPMS service kit

Post by kwikphix328 on Sat Apr 28, 2018 4:10 pm

Does anybody know if there is a repair/seal kit available for the OEM Suzuki TPMS sensors.

I am planning to get my original Gloss Black Misti Alloys powder coated in silver, before putting them back on for summer.

I would like to replace the valve seals when I do this.

My Spare Misti Wheel has a VDO/Continental TPMS sensor fitted and I know the number for that one ( VDO/Continental S180084510A ) .

I don't know what TPMS are fitted to the 4 original wheels until the tyres come off just getting some prices & availability before getting the work done.

99% of the time the TPMS are Continental fitted and supplied by Suzuki, service kit is available...

Thanks for the link & info Karl.

I bought a cheap tatty set of Fiat 500 wheels for my missus car last year , to fit winter tyres to. I got them done in Norwich here BA Wheels Norwich.
They did a really good job, however they cost me £51 per bare wheel, so the prices in Brum look very attaractive.

Do they powder coat or paint.

edit i see they powder coat.

Edited to add;
My OEM Misti Alloys had Continental S18002052024D TPMS sensors fitted.
Getting them resprayed tomorrow.

Sorry if the answer to this is in the manual or buried in the thread replies. If I swop my wheels around does the car re-learn the new wheel positions or is this a manual input or even a diagnostic tool re-jig.
