Tuning for the Diesel Vitara has always been available as the Fiat engine is used in many applications but here is a company/franchise that offers tuning by means off remapping the ECU on both Petrol and Diesel 1.6 Vitara's

Figure's and dyno charts are shown below...

Petrol 1.6

Power
Original 120BHP Tuned 129BHP

Torque
Original 115Nm Tuned 124Nm

QUANTUM TUNING Quantu10

Diesel 1.6

Power
Original 120BHP Tuned 155BHP

Torque
Original 320Nm Tuned 380Nm

QUANTUM TUNING Diesel10

I have contacted them regarding costs and will let you know as soon as I have a reply , i have also asked if any plans for the 1.4 Turbo are in the pipeline?
Meanwhile you can check out more details here...

Bearing in mind the recent thread on warranty I wonder if this would impact it? Especially if the engine lunched itself.

It's a separate thing. If you think about it the engine has "x" amount of horsepower which is fixed. The sport/auto/snow selection modify where the power goes i.e. which wheels and also modifies the behaviour of the throttle and how many revs before a gear change is made. It doesn't add any power by using sport mode for example. On more sophisticated (for that read expensive :-) systems sport mode or it's equivalent will also stiffen the suspension and possibly the braking force/abs operation. In addition it may run richer, modify ignition timing and a load of other stuff that I've forgotten. :-)

Very interested in this! I had my Fabia vRS remapped and it completely transformed the car and only took a couple of minutes.

A strange thing I have found is that the ECU part number on the 2WD and 4WD models (which has the Sport mode) is exactly the same suggesting the Sport Mode is a separate control unit?
The ECU is even the same as 2006> SX4/Fiat Sedici and 2013> S-Cross, strange the ECU has had nothing changed since 2006?

It would be interesting and I am browsing the parts lists to see if there is a way to somehow add the "Sport" mode to 2WD models?

Just had a quick look, Karl part numbers for the control units are the same through Petrol and Diesel models, though main harness's are different, mostly likely to accomadate the extra control unit.

I don't think this is an option without major transmission work, the easiest way to do this would be to create a crawler 1st gear and bypass 1st gear in normal operation and use 2nd gear to pull away

This was the system used on Mk1 Panda 4x4's but would involve having a 1st gear and corresponding lay gear (or SHAFT, TRANSAXLE INPUT as Suzuki call it) in lower ratios made and a second gear with ratios more suitable for pulling away from standstill

As you can tell it is not an off the shelf conversion but gear sets are made for Suzuki Swifts so there is no reason why ratios to suit a low gear could not be manufactured/requested
