Is there any example on YouTube?

It is a single thump when the gearbox changes from 1st to 2nd gear only. To check if you have it find a quiet bit of road, come to a complete stop, handbrake off and stand on the throttle. If you have a problem then, when it changes to 2nd gear, you will feel and hear a thump, you really can't miss it. Make sure you select a straight bit of road with enough distance to stop. :-)

Its hard to describe other than saying that it was a harsh sudden change, and not smooth. With me it was mostly in sport mode and only 1 to 2. It was solved with the software update.

Same here. I had the jerky change from 1st to 2nd, more like a hurried snatch. Cured by the software update. Only thing I don't like about the auto box is if you pull away on a slight incline it seems to hold on to the gears a bit too long so give it flick of the paddle to change up usually.

I found that normal for non turbo engine, it needs revs to be able to deliver power
If you do the math, at 3.000 rpm it has 60-70 bhp
Rev it, engine loves it Smile

Got the same problem described here by everyone else. I had a 1.6 AllGrip 6-speed automatic petrol for almost 3 years now. The Vitara, overall, is a great 4x4 car except for this jerky change of gear when you're accelerating from a stop.  I once test-drove the 1.4 Vitara sport AllGrip automatic just to check and it didn't have this problem.
I almost switched to the newer 1.4 this spring before I had the 3rd yearly service couple of weeks ago:
Voila! After the included software update from the dealer, the problem went away, and my current Vitara acceleration improved immensely. It changes gears smoothly like butter even if you floor the accelerator! I guess I'm keeping this car for the next couple of years still!
