Drivers seat spliting Empty Drivers seat spliting

While doing my weekly vac of the interior I've found that the side wall of the drivers seat has cracked!
Surely this isn't right for a 3 year old car seat to do this?

Same with mine, 10,500 miles, 42 months old, only me driving and I am only 10 stone, not fit for purpose. I am sure any query at the dealers will be met with "Out Of Warranty".

Right thanks for your reply Charlie!
Have you tried asking at the dealers then?

No, just prior to warranty running out dealer stoped being a Suzuki franchise so local garage did my 3rd service.

Exactly the same thing happened to ours around 12 months ago. The 'leather' is actually a seat cover and Suzuki replaced it under warranty

So, I’ve just noticed this evening that ours has started to split again. 12 months since the first replacement. Great!

Sorry to hear its split again....like charlie says it's not fit for purpose.
It looks to me that the bit you sit on is real leather and the sides are some kind of vinyl/ imitation cheap crap.

It’s a shame. I had our 3rd service done at an independent garage due to huge price difference and now the warranty has expired anyway. I wonder if the replacement will carry its own warranty? Might be worth me asking, it’s actually only 11 months since it was done.

Also, I’m not sure any of it is actually ‘real’ leather! I wouldn’t really expect it to be on a vitara tbh

Think it's faux leather... Or similar.

Mines is slightly cracked aswell..also had the dready squeeky back bolsters.

I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a written off face-lift vitara or swift sport that I can replace the two front seats with.

@tjhmortimer

Normally the warranty period for replacement parts ends with the original parts warranty period; when I had the drop links on my vehicle replaced they failed within 10 months and 10k miles. The garage replaced them with no issue as they had done less than 12 months & 12k miles. When these also failed at around 9 months and 6k miles they refused to replace them as they were out with the original parts 12 month/12k miles warranty period.

Still doesn't stop you from asking, though. Although it's a dying art, some companies/individuals still believe in providing decent customer service.

I went to montys suzuki in Sheffield yesterday mainly for an AC service but also asked about the seat split.....unfortunately youre 5 months out of warranty so contact suzuki customer services for advice....
Sent an email including a photo of the split to customerservices@suzuki.co.uk
I'm now waiting for a reply but don't hold much hope.
Might be a good idea if everyone with this problem does the same please.

Suzuki will consider defects for 12 months after warranty ends as a gesture of goodwill, IF the car has a ful Suzuki service history and the problem is deemed to be a manufacturing defect. What difference a service history makes to the seat splitting I have no idea. I would say legally they are wrong as goods have to be fit for purpose and last a reasonable length of time (5 years in Scotland and I think 6 years in England).

I have good news and bad news with the two Vitara S in the family

My fathers S 19,000 miles...

My S with 18,000 miles...

Drivers seat spliting Seat_k12

Drivers seat spliting Seat_k13

We both weight similar 90-95kg but the only difference is that i use this once a year on my seats...

It is designed for both Leather and Faux Leather and comes with detailed instructions/pictures on a CD,  i apply it once a year of an evening on all the seats (Vitara/Jimny and previous Grand Vitara) and buff off the residue next morning

It may be a bit late for those who have already have cracked seat bases but could be a prevention for those that dont or if replaced under waranty

Having read this thread I have checked my seat and yes it too is split.
2015 27000 miles and drivers seat has split and I am 90kg .
This is shockingly poor and I would have thought not fit for purpose.
Split seats on a car less than 4 years old!!!!!!
Probably sums up the quality of Suzuki vehicles nowadays.!

Sadly yes. We’ve had so many issues with ours but now we’ve paid off the finance looks like we’ll be keeping it.

Prop shaft fault
Radar braking system not fit for purpose
Splitting seat
Noisy brake pads
Sat nav unit replaced
Auxiliary belt replaced
Suzuki badge (rear) replaced twice
Front grille replaced three times
Headlights dazzling

I’m sure there’s more! 😩

I don't know if the S-Cross has the same problem. But I should call it leather/vinyl seats. It's not leather that's splitting. It's vinyl on the sides and back of the seats.

I've used electricians tape to mask off around the split and then smeared some of the above adhesive onto the split to try and prevent it getting worse!
Fingers crossed it works.....

2017 s 18000 mile and mine looks ok. I've ordered some of the said cream, and will treat the seats with it, and if any left over, I can always try it on the wifes face, haha.

No issues with ours (yet), but looking at piccies above and checking our car I think it's possibly aggravated by the sharp edges of the hard trim surrounding base of seats.
Time to look for a flexible rubber strip to put round the seat base trim.
