Post by LourensL on Mon Jul 29, 2019 4:00 pm

Is there anybody who has 7,5j (or wider) rims under his vitara with an offset of ET35

I am about to buy new wheels.

17" 7.5j et35 with 225/55R17 tires

Surprises me how many people make changes to the standard features on a car. There is no way I would fit wheels that do not appear on delivery vehicles. How is this going to effect your insurance and warranty ?

In the Netherlands is this no problem with insurens

The warranty can be a problem. Although there are dealers who place and sell non oem 19 " 8j rims under their new Vitara's.

Most dealers offering the option to fit non oem rims.

I must agree with John W,
The manufacturer has a team of design engineers who will have designed and produced a vehicle which will drive and handle properly.
Fitting non standard wheels and tyres, fitting wheel spacers and raising or lowering the suspension will alter the steering and driveability
of the vehicle which may make it dangerous to drive and may not comply with the construction and use regulations.

I think you overreact....

Dangerous, by changing rims with a lower et Value. I don't think so.

It is often so that a car drives better after modification such as lowering the suspension or placing wider tires.

But that's the humble opinion from a vitara rider with a lot of car modification experience ..... 😉

Car manufacturers often only think about making a car as cheap as possible. Standard wheels are 6.5x17 ET50 with 215 / 55-17 tires. When they are on the car it is a completely wrong fitting. wheels about 15mm too far inside the fender edge. The tire is about 30mm too wide for the rim. I run with 8.5x19 ET40 with 235/40-19. The car runs much better with the size of tires and rims

Thanks for the acclaim and the photo of yours rims and tires👍

Simple calculation,
235 : 2 = 117,5 - ET40 = 77,5
225 : 2 = 112,5 - ET35 = 77,5

So my 225 tires with ET35 will come out as far as your 235 tires with ET40. 😜

P. S. I love the style of your Vitara 👍

Cars from the factory are all built as a compromise the main factors being economy and safety, a narrow tyre is going to give better economy, a taller profile a better ride yet a lower profile will give handling, as for wheels sitting within the arches that is obviously to give more coverage of rain spray or gravel rash
Offsets of wheels while they may "fill the arches" will throw rain/road debris etc more up the side of your vehicle not only risking damage to your paintwork but also to vehicles travelling behind
For many years on Vitaras and Jimnys I have fitted wider tyres ( eg :195R15 to 215/75/15) and wider/bigger offset alloys and they did look very good..............but the downside is that I had some serious stone chips along the sides of the vehicle that would have been prevented had I kept to the or offset and tyre size

Not being so vain as I have aged I have learnt to stick with factory offset wheels and factory size tyres and a gravel rash free bodywork

After studying all the pictures of the beautiful Vitara of Ken. And the wise words of Karl, I decided to go for rims with Et47. At the rims I like I have only the choice between ET35 and ET47. And then I think the ET35 are coming slightly too far out.

Thanks for all the pictures and wise words 👍

These are the wheels I'm going to order. ET35 wheels Screen11

I have to agree with LourensL, there are more diplomatic ways of disagreeing with someone's taste/choice

LourensL what wheels are they, MAK?
Initially I thought they were SZ4 rims but the wheel lip is different

Thanks Karl,

They look indeed a little like the SZ4 rims, but this are CMS C22 rims.

I think they look also a little like the rims of a Rang Rover evoque 😎

The Highlands I have also looked at, but those are only attainable in Matt Black for the Vitara and I want gloss.

This is the Houtrib dike. About 15 minutes drive from me home.  The dam was built begin '70, and Is about 27km Long, it  separates the Ijsselmeer from the Markermeer. And brings you from Lelystad to Enkhuizen. study

Thanks for the comment on my car. I will not mount 225 / 55R17 tires on a 7.5inch rim. 7.5x2.5 = 18.8cm it is max 205 / 55-17 on the width rim. i would grab an 8inch ET 35-40.

Kent,

225 is a ideal tire size for 7, 5j (See List)
Vredestein itself indicates that even 225/60R16 fit on a 6, 5j rim

My new rims are ordered..... But.
Not in the size 17 ". 7,5j 😎

Halfway week 34 They are mounted under my Vitara. And will I post the pictures😜

I will look forward to pictures. I don't know where the tire manufacturers get the numbers from, but I have the best result with som thing else. Worked as a car mechanic in workshops where we also built track cars. When we installed after market wheels on customers' cars, the rule was that the tire should be the closest tire width that is over 20mm widths than the rim. Therefore 8.5x25 = 212.5mm Therefore there must be a 235 tire on an 8.5inch rim
