Okay... Does anyone else's Vitara give them an almighty shock everytime you turn it off and walk out (and touch the door)?

People near me must think I've got a case of tourettes...I've resorted to lightly pushing the door shut with my foot.

I've searched Google to see if there are any solutions. One being installing a grounding strap to the underside of the car... Which I'd rather not do.

Obviously a case of static electricity. I remember having it on early cars, and it can give you a nasty jolt. Try wearing a different pair of shoes.

+1 for what JOHNWALES says.
Also, static is generally generated in a car when man-made materials are rubbed together, e.g. slacks/trousers and seat materials.

Anyone remember the old anti-static straps that used to hang down at the rear of cars. I had one on my old GV because they were murder for giving shocks. Anyway if you want avoid getting shocks, a firm positive press with a finger or holding on to the door when you get out should dissipate the electricity you have generated . In my case ,the kids used to enjoy my ability to create a noticeable spark when opening the garage door.
You could of course look for a strap, not seen them for some time.

the best thing I found was to close the door using the window glass does not seem to hold the static for some reason,

Occasional static electric shocks on my S Cross.
Sometimes the crack is audible and nearly makes my eyes water.
