Indicator Relay? Empty Indicator Relay?

Post by dave_h on Tue May 14, 2019 7:51 am

Hello all, I've recently bought a Vitara (2015) and so far I'm very happy with it.

I'll get some pics & info posted up when I get a mo, but in the meantime I'd like to know where the relay for the indicator lights lives?

I'm looking to replace the standard bulbs with some LED ones (already done the side lights & internal lights) but without changing the relay they won't work.

I've got the bulbs and got the relay so now it should be a fairly straightforward process...

Cheers,

Dave

Very Happy

It would be Dead Easy if the Vitara had an Indicator relay but I believe the indicators are controlled by the BCM so it is not going to be a straight forward process

Well that's a right pain Sad

Would using some sort of resistor work?

Many vehicles since 2003 have been using BCM controlled indicators, the real pain is when you have something like a Hyundai or Ford and the relays fail and it's a new BCM or try to get the soldered in relay replaced/repaired

Ive never used them but you could try some error free bulbs that claim to give the correct flash rate?

That might be worth a go - any links?

Has anyone else done this (or similar)?

Purely cosmetic
If you are on a motorcycle with a small output generator fitting LED bulbs can reduce power draw to allow you to run additional high drain items such as heated grips or clothing but rarely on a car engine do you need to worry

None really - I just think the immediate on/off of an LED rather than the slow glow of a "normal" bulb looks better Very Happy

I've replaced (nearly) all of the interior bulbs, the number plate lights and sidelights with LEDs and they look much nicer!
