It's coming up to 2 years on my Vitara S. My PCP deal is for 3 years. The new 2019 vitara is an extra £3.5k.

So when my finance runs out next year, should I buy my car out right when my contract expires? get the 2019 model (top spec) or at the price point they are asking for, look else where?

Love my vitara S but the Bosch unit suck big time, Already upgraded my speakers and if I get the 2019 model will have to do the same again next year and i'm sure SUZUKI will do a face lift after or two after 2020. Or I could get a KIA, TOYOTA, SUBARU or MITSUBISHI.

I have owned both the 1.6 petrol SZ5 Allgrip and currently the 1.4 S
Initially I missed two features of the SZ5 such as the sunroof and better interior lights when opening the doors ( S = central lamp SZ5 =  2 X front map lights and 2 X rear passenger lamps either side of the sunroof) but the major gain on the S was the 1.4 Boosterjet engine which was a big improvement over the 1.6

Now the Facelift SZ5 is available with the 1.4 I think it would be the best of both worlds

As for the other 4 brands I think you only have to view the online comparisons to realise that you get a lot of spec/reliability for your money with a Vitara and to get the same spec the rrp rises considerably on the other 4

I just want to say how delighted i am in owning the new 2019 SZ5 Vitara

Looks fabulous in Galactic Grey

I love the panoramic sunroof for the huge amount of light it gives to the cabin, and the extra safety radar features bring a smile to my face as i drive in comfort.

I personally have been quite impressed with the Bosch unit (barring the laggy touchscreen)

Did an upgrade to the speakers make a big difference?

Was maybe thinking about it myself, but unsure whether it was the unit that was to blame or the speakers for the ''average'' quality sound produced?

Worth upgrading my 2017 Vitara S Empty Bosch

Post by JOHNWALES on Mon May 06, 2019 11:09 pm

Believe me, for a guy who has owned more than 50 different cars in a life time, all fitted with G P S in the last 20 years, the current Bosch GPS system as fitted in the Vitara is as good as if not better than any previous unit I have used. The key to success is to fit a secondary Tom Tom and use them together, Make sure that the Bosch is adjusted to metric set up; that is k/m and that avoids voice alerts being overlapped by each unit.

I must admit the latest software has made a big difference to the BOSCH but I still hate it.

A speaker upgrade is a must if you like music (not just for the background). I've read somewhere that the unit only outputs about 15W per channel, which is really low.

The upgrade is simple enough but you must sound proof the doors as the music will leak outside And yes, it made a huge difference.

Thanks ashbash. Will look into it.

Did you get it done at the dealers or did you use a dedicated ICE company to replace the speakers?

Mines brand new so will probably have to wait until warranty period is over, unfortunately.

I did mine myself, the door panels are ever so easy to remove. I lasted about 2 months after taking delivery of my car before I had to change them.

The speaker adapters are from the Swift and they have the fittings.

For the sound proofing I used something called "Silent coat". They come in self adhesive sheets which cut to fit to the internal door skin behind the speaker. Use a roller as well to get good adhesion.

Audio upgrades will not affect your warranty , most European Suzuki importers actually offer upgraded speakers in their accessories catalogue

Yeah I know but I have not figured out all the connections at the back of the head unit. I might start again next year when I get my 2020 vitara.

Is there a wiring diagram for the head unit? Would love to know where the gps unit is located, the mic for the phone, usb, dab aerial and what connectors they use.

That's awesome Karl, alot more information than I saw last year.

Checked the Pioneer website for head units and boy there are so many. Since I mostly use Carplay I'm glad that wireless Carplay are standard on quite a few units.

I don't think I'll bother with a sat nav version as it's more trouble than its worth and I'll never get my money back anyway.

Update:
Found this: https://car-solutions.com/en/camera-connection-cable-for-suzuki-of-2012-2019-my.php?currency=3

Glad you like your new Vitara. Just out of interest, what level of maps on the Sat Nav SD card (ie; what year) comes with the 2019 model.

Thanks.

To be honest terry, I'm not sure how up to date the satnav is, or how you find out?

I did do an easy Bosch firmware upgrade from reading about it on this forum (thank you Karl) but I'm unsure if this also updates the maps

That will be interesting.

I've decided, I'll keep my Vitara S, auto (allgrip) until there is a new S out. It's just too nice to get rid of. On my top of pioneer speakers, I've also added a armrest, stainless steel door sill and boot protectors. Looking on Autotrader, they are holding there value very well. Oh and I have changed my alloys too. My original set have done less than 500 miles.

I will now upgrade the head unit. I did notice that in europe in the speaker upgrade package there is an option for a underseat sub and a pioneer head unit upgrade. Looking at the pioneer website too, most of the cables are there too, including the camera interface. As usual nothing available in the UK.

https://www.pioneer-car.eu/eur/cip/parts/Suzuki/Vitara%2520-----%2520Grand%2520Vitara/2017

Interesting read on those install manuals.

When I've got bits together I'll post my upgrade journey on here.

Should I set up a gofundme for the £1500 I'll need? Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Along with factory tweeters i fitted a Pioneer Active Subwoofer under the seat of our SZ4 Jimny, it was a vast improvement over the factory footwell mounted 10cm 2 way speakers but still not as good as the Standard Vitara sound....

I fitted one of those in my Duster - I found the best place was up high in the passenger foot-well rather than under the seat, didn't get in the way, attached with Velcro and the wiring run was shorter.
It made a pleasant difference, without sounding like a teenagers bedroom
