so ive had this rattle for the past few weeks coming from the rear of the car. (just thought it was all the loose crap i keep in the back) and today sounded really bad so emptied it all out and went for a small drive.  noise still there. so just as i got home went to use the brakes and the pedal went down to the floor, tried handbrake and that didnt work either. affraid  lucky for me i managed to stop car by parking sideways on a small hill towards my garage. looked and the rear passenger side caliper and you can move the brake pads with your finger. Sad

Have you had the rear pads replaced at any time under warranty or service?

Can you see any of the bolt left in the slider pins?

I have replaced the front and rear discs/pads on my niece's S-cross this weekend (same parts as Vitara) and the rear caliper retaining bolts are only torqued to 19.5lb.ft and if like many garages  your dealer has used air tools they would have easily overtightened and stretched the bolts causing them to snap

not had any work done to the brakes. just 2 services from a Suzuki dealer.

I will go and have another look to see if the bolt has snapped. if not , would the piston thing be easy to refit as i know that is loose from the caliper?
im thinking if i can just put it back together to limp the car to the dealer (15 miles) and they can check it over.

If the bolts have sheared in the slider pins you will not be able to retain the caliper
Bit of a get you home codge but if you zip tie the caliper out of the way and clamp the rubber hose lightly with some mole grips you should get a brake pedal back to limp it to the garage

The bolts (7&16) 55206-78452 are around 25-30mm long and screw into the slider pins (4.13 & 5.14)

i think my rear caliper is broken 2019-014

well sent car off on Tuesday for them to take a look. got car back today. everyone is mystified as to what happened. they confirmed they did check the brakes back in October and if they had missed the bolts something would have happened sooner. i have never had any issues with the dealer and i've been with them for 12 years so i do believe and trust them. i guess bolts slowly worked loose??

they did double checked all the other brakes and nothing else was damaged when caliper came off.
