The tyre blowy up thing Empty The tyre blowy up thing

Post by Badfx on Sat Apr 20, 2019 12:31 pm

Hi
I have just been checking my tyre pressures for a journey to the Uk. One of my tyres was over inflated (ECO) so i started twisting the little valve to let air out. turned it too far and it shot out. i found the car that has a forked bit on it and screwed it back in, its still letting air out so i think i am missing a bit. i have no idea what im looking for though so its difficult on the gravel driveway. Does anyone have a photo or can give me rough idea what to look for please.

Thanks
Neil

Sorry i havent been very clear. The bit im missing i from the tyre inflator. there is a screw near the nozzle that if turned releases air. its a piece of that, that i have lost.

The best way to remove air from the tyre is to insert a finger or key in the tyre valve.

Thanks for the photo, that is really helpful. At least I know what I'm looking for now. Although I've spent at least an hour looking already.

When using this gadget, make sure you have the engine running; and you are not stopped on an incline. The Vitari hand brake is not as secure as some.

Time to buy a 5 quid foot pump, better than going to the gym !

So, tell us the end of the story. What were you looking for? The o-ring?

It was the bottom bit of that screw fitting. I never did find it. I bought pump that came with something called Slime. It was only after getting that home discovered that I would have to remove the valve before putting the slime in the tyre. I don't even know if that's possible.
Basically driving with my fingers crossed that Inever get a puncture.
On a happier note I have found 3 tiny chips in my windscreen that I am accrediting to wrecking my windscreen wipers.

Of course you can remove the valve stem. Use a valve stem tool. Google!
But it would be much easier for you to use the bottle/can that came with the car. You connect it to your pump. Read manual on the pump.
But first you have to fix your pump. Even if you didn't find all the parts you can seal the hole with something else. Just make sure you don't seal it at the bottom. That's where the air has to pass.
But might/will ruin your tyre and your pump.
