Dear all,

Do you know what gearbox is Suzuki using on Vitara?
On user manual it not stated, and I would like to know more on this topic.

All I know is that manufacturer is Aisin.

Thank you all in advance

Thanks for the info
In service manual, I see that no maintenance is required, just an oil change after 8 years or 160.000km
There is no oil dipstick for gearbox?

Have checked on mine and no dipstick - my last two automatics didn't have dipsticks either the oil was checked by the mechanics at a major service by removing an inspection/filler cap in the gearbox sump.

The Auto box for the 1.6 petrol is a brand new auto introduced first in the new Vitara. The blurb explained that it a conventional auto with  3 lock up gears to aid smooth and improved acceleration. It appears to be 1st, 3rd and 6th. Sadly the link to the article no longer works on the Suzuki website.  The 1.4 and diesel have different auto boxes .The 1.6 SCross had a cvt auto. Probably all going to change with the facelift models.

I've had autos for many years and I have to say it seems to change down very quickly on hills maybe its down to the little engine.

If I need engine braking, I simply downshift using paddle

6th gear on the 1.6 is a bit too high and only good for cruising on the flat, it does seem to change down 2 gears on the slightest slope. You get used to it as the engine doesn't have the torque of turbo's. 5th gear on the auto is the same as 5th on the manual so it's not so bad really .
